主題と目標
In this course, we overview the research on Chinese grammar from formal linguistic perspectives. The aim of this course is to learn the current analyses on Mandarin Chinese and gain the ability to discuss the problems in these analyses. First, we review the work on Chinese appositives. Second we proceed to see the problems related to comparatives. Last, we explore the possibility of expanding the Mass/Count dsitinction of nouns to Chinese.

Lecture 3:The characteristics of appositive relative clauses ― in embedded clauses
Lecture 4:The characteristics of appositive relative clauses ― about their antecedents and binding
Lecture 5:ALH:Let's find Chinese appositive relative clauses in textbook and corpus
Lecture 6: The structure of appositive relative clauses
Lecture 7:Appositives in Chinese and Japanese
Lecture 8:Syntax and semantics of "same"― empirical data
Lecture 9: Syntax and semantics of "same"― applying the syntax of Chinese nominals

時間外学習
The participants of this course are required to collect Chinese examples and analyze them in accordance to the framework taught in the course. In the end of this course, each participant is required to present her own analysis of Chinese.

The students who attend this course are required to have basic knowledge on Chinese grammar. While the knowledge on linguistics is not required beforehand, students are required to be patient enough to learn basics of formal linguistics, which you are sure to find intriguing.
