言語学入門I・II（もしくは言語学概論）、英文法、英語学入門を履修していること。他学科・他コースの受講希望者は、あらかじめ面談の上受講の許可を得ること。 Prerequisites: “Introduction to Language I/II,” “English Grammar I/II,” “Introduction to English Linguistics.” Non-English major students must consult with the instructor beforehand.

主題と目標
英文法の知識を最近の生成文法理論の観点から捉える訓練を行う。主に統語論の問題に焦点を当てて、英語の基本的な文構造に関する理解を深める。数多くの言語資料に接することにより、様々な構文の背後にある規則性を発見する手順を身につけることが主な目標となる。３年次に開講される「特別演習（言語研究方法論）I」における学習の準備段階の授業と位置づけられる。　The goal of this class is to enable students to reshape their knowledge of English grammar in terms of theoretical linguistics, especially a relatively recent version of generative grammar. By focusing on the issues in syntax, students will deepen their understanding of the sentence structure of English. By looking at a variety of linguistic data, students should be able to acquire skills to discover rules governing syntactic phenomena. The second half of the textbook will be dealt with in “Advanced Seminar: Methodology in Linguistic Research I.”
