主題と目標
This course is designed to introduce the works of William Faulkner, a representative American writer of the twentieth century. We will learn about historical, social, cultural backgrounds of his works. Also, we will focus on such issues as race, class, gender to read and analyze not only literary texts but also criticism on them. 20世紀のアメリカの代表的な作家であるウィリアム・フォークナーの作品を取り上げ、歴史的・社会的・文化的背景についての知識を深めながら、とりわけ人種・階級・性差といった主題に着目しつつ、文学テクストおよびその批評文献を批判的に分析する手法を学ぶ。

主題と目標

This course is designed to introduce the works of William Faulkner, a representative American writer of the twentieth century. 20世紀のアメリカの代表的な作家であるウィリアム・フォークナーの作品を取り上げ、歴史的・社会的・文化的背景についての知識を深めながら、とりわけ人種・階級・性差といった主題に着目しつつ、文学テクストおよびその批評文献を批判的に分析する手法を学ぶ。

You should read the assigned text and work on a worksheet for every class meeting. When you present, you should also prepare a handout that summarizes the assigned part of the text and highlights important points and key moments. 事前に毎回授業で扱うテクストを各自で読み、ワークシートに取り組むこと。発表担当者はレジュメを用意し、要約および重要だと考えられるポイントなどについて口頭で発表する。
